Blessed with flourishing beauty of nature with Bagirathi river and many
beautiful waterfalls, Uttarkashi - a border hill district in the northern state of
Uttaranchal - holds the grace of the origin of the holy rivers Ganga and
Yamuna, the lifelines of India. Also known as the 'Devbhumi' (the land of
gods and goddesses) Uttarkashi is the land of two famous Hindu pilgrimages
' Gangotri' and ' Yamunotri'.
Our Ashram, where a Shiva temple is located, is open throughout the year
and is situated on the bank of the holy Ganga. We provide accommodation
with no kitchen facility.
Our Ashram, established nearly 55 years ago, is located at an altitude of
nearly 11000 ft. above sea level. Accommodation consists of logwood huts
for single occupancy and lighting is with the help of fuel. The kitchen facility
offers four meals a day. This ashram works six months a year
(often from May to October)when the snow is cleared and the road is open.
The way to Gangotri is very picturesque and it has been compared to Switzerland;
snow clad peaks are visible throughout the road.
